Halloween in a time of Corona

Posted on October 23, 2020 at 12:59 PM by Crystal Keener

The last months have, at times, seemed like a Stephen King novel or young adult dystopian thriller. But there are glimmers of hope and better days to come. And while most  traditional holiday events this year will need alterations, there are creative ways to enjoy them and possibly create new traditions. Halloween will certainly look and feel different, however there are a number of  ways to safely celebrate this spooky season?

  • Create an outdoor Halloween-themed scavenger hunt.
  • Visit a pumpkin patch or apple orchard, we have plenty here.
  • Explore a haunted forest or corn maze.
  • Take a stroll on the new StoryWalk at Smoot Park. Featuring "Leonardo, the Terrible Monster" by Mo Willems.
  • Visit downtown where shops on Main and 10th have large read along book pages for "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything,"  displayed in their windows.
  • Host a virtual costume party.

  • Huddle up and share ghost stories.
  • Hide Halloween treats in and around your house.

  • Put on an outdoor costume parade.

  • Host an outdoor Halloween movie.

  • Hold a family or neighborhood jack-o-lantern carving contest and share pictures on social media.
  • Take a swing at making a Halloween piñata.
