Proposed Unified Development Ordinance (UDO)

The Board of Commissioners have identified a goal to work towards ensuring the Town is development friendly.  Staff recognized that our zoning regulations and subdivision code was dated and not user friendly as well as it is mixed throughout several locations that were not easy to navigate.  By putting the zoning ordinance, subdivision code, Planning Board regulations, and wireless communications ordinance all in one document with graphics it will make it easier to understand and utilize.  Additionally, part of the Town's Comprehensive Plan adopted in 2018, noted to create this document seen in Policy 13 - Consolidate development regulations into a Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The Town's Planning Board and two Board of Commissioners members have been meeting regularly as a Steering Committee that are scheduled during Planning Board meetings to work through the edits on this document.  The Town contracted out with WithersRavenel based out of Cary, NC to assist with this project.  Final draft and public input meetings are scheduled accordingly.  Please reach out to staff with any questions or concerns.
